Lütz is a picturesque little village surrounded by sweeping woods, meadows and floodplains, and is idyllically nestled in the valley of the Lützbach brook. The atmosphere of the village is very much influenced by the historical buildings, which include the vicarage, the church and the village hall. The oldest building in Lütz is the hunting lodge  of the von Eltz lords from the year 1541. The village has approx. 350 inhabitants and is situated some 3 km from the Moselle in a pretty side valley in the Hunsrück region.
Slate quarrying used to play an important role in Lütz.

In 2005 the slate quarry hiking trail was created. The 7-kilometre circular route takes you past the old slate tunnels; from around the middle of the 19th century until 1953, this is where many men from Lütz worked hard to wrestle the black gold from the mountain.
